Mining Profitability by Electricity Cost (Antminer S21 Pro Reference)

Electricity cost is the single biggest variable in Bitcoin mining profitability. The table below shows how different electricity rates affect net daily profit for an Antminer S21 Pro (234 TH/s, 3510 W). Adjust these figures in the calculator above with your exact hardware and rate.

Country / RegionAvg $/kWhDaily Elec CostEst. Daily ProfitVerdict
Kazakhstan / Central Asia $0.03–$0.04 $2.53–$3.37 ~$12–$16/day ✓ Very profitable
USA (industrial / Texas ERCOT) $0.04–$0.06 $3.37–$5.06 ~$10–$14/day ✓ Profitable
Canada (hydro regions) $0.05–$0.07 $4.21–$5.90 ~$9–$13/day ✓ Profitable
UAE / Middle East $0.06–$0.08 $5.06–$6.75 ~$7–$11/day ✓ Marginal

How to Use the Mining Profitability Calculator

Getting accurate results takes under 60 seconds:

  1. Select your algorithm — click the algorithm pill (SHA-256 for Bitcoin, Scrypt for LTC/DOGE, KHeavyHash for Kaspa, etc.)
  2. Pick your coin — the dropdown filters automatically. For Scrypt you can select LTC only, DOGE only, or combined LTC+DOGE.
  3. Choose an ASIC preset — or enter your hashrate and power manually if you have custom hardware.
  4. Set your electricity cost — this is your most important input. Check your electricity bill for the $/kWh rate.
  5. Add pool fee — typically 1–4% depending on pool. Leave at 1% if unsure.
  6. Click Calculate — see daily, monthly, and yearly profit with a 12-month chart.

For fleet operators: enter the number of miners in the "Quantity" field to see total fleet revenue and the combined hardware ROI period.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bitcoin mining profitable in 2026? +

It depends entirely on your electricity cost and hardware efficiency. After the 2024 halving, the block reward dropped to 3.125 BTC. At current BTC prices and difficulty, miners with electricity below $0.07/kWh running modern ASICs (Antminer S21 Pro, Bitdeer SealMiner A4) can generate meaningful profit. Home miners paying retail electricity rates above $0.12/kWh are typically at or below breakeven. Use the calculator above with your exact numbers.

What is the most profitable coin to mine right now? +

Profitability shifts constantly with coin prices and network difficulty. In 2026, Bitcoin (SHA-256), Kaspa (KHeavyHash), and Alephium (Blake3) have attracted significant ASIC investment. However, the "best" coin depends on which ASIC you own — you can only mine the algorithms your hardware supports. Use our ASIC Ranker to see which coins your specific miner earns the most on today.

How does merge mining LTC and DOGE work? +

Litecoin (LTC) and Dogecoin (DOGE) both use the Scrypt algorithm and are merge-mined — meaning a Scrypt ASIC earns both coins simultaneously at zero extra power cost. A miner like the Antminer L9 (16 GH/s) earns roughly $3/day in LTC and $6/day in DOGE at current prices, for a combined ~$9/day. Select "Scrypt" in the calculator and choose "LTC+DOGE (merged)" to see the combined figure.

What's the difference between FPPS and PPLNS pool payouts? +

FPPS (Full Pay Per Share) pays you for every valid share you submit, including a portion of transaction fees, regardless of whether the pool found a block. You get consistent daily payouts. PPLNS (Pay Per Last N Shares) only pays when the pool finds a block, splitting the reward among recent contributors. FPPS has higher predictability; PPLNS can pay more if the pool is lucky. Most industrial miners prefer FPPS for cash-flow stability. Use our Pool Comparison tool to compare specific pools.

How accurate is the profitability estimate? +

Very accurate for current conditions. Prices update every 10 minutes, network difficulty every 30 minutes. The formula used — (your hashrate / network hashrate) × blocks per day × block reward × coin price — is the same one pools use for FPPS payout calculations, verified against ViaBTC and F2Pool published rates. The key uncertainty is future difficulty growth, which you can model in our Difficulty Forecast tool.

What electricity rate do I need to mine Bitcoin profitably? +

With the Antminer S21 Pro (234 TH/s) and BTC at current prices: below $0.07/kWh is solidly profitable, $0.07–$0.10/kWh is marginal, above $0.10/kWh is typically unprofitable. These thresholds shift with BTC price and difficulty. Industrial facilities in Texas, Kazakhstan, and Paraguay target $0.03–$0.05/kWh to maximise margins.

Should I mine Bitcoin or just buy it? +

Mining and buying are both ways to accumulate Bitcoin but with different risk profiles. Mining has hardware costs, electricity costs, and exposure to difficulty increases, but also provides a recurring revenue stream. Buying is simpler but exposes you purely to price. Our Mine vs Buy calculator compares both strategies over time using your specific hardware and electricity cost so you can make a data-driven decision.

How do I calculate break-even for an ASIC miner? +

Break-even = hardware cost ÷ daily net profit. For example: a $3,500 Antminer S21 Pro earning $8/day net after electricity = 437 days to break even. The ROI Calculator models this over 36 months with adjustable difficulty growth and coin price assumptions, showing you exactly when your investment turns profitable.
